It’s not every day that the manufacturer of your garage door opener sends you on a whirlwind adventure to Queenstown, New Zealand, let alone the opportunity to ride in a V8 Supercar with a racing legend!
That was the reality for four lucky Merlin competition winners, who travelled to Queenstown to experience the ride of their lives; a hot lap with Merlin Ambassador and four-times Bathurst 1000 winner, Greg Murphy!
The four winners were a mix of homeowners and Merlin authorised dealers who entered the competition from both Australia and New Zealand. The lucky winners and their families spent three days experiencing the beauty of scenic Queenstown.
Merlin dealer Darren, from Brisbane Roller Doors, was thrilled to bring his family, including 10-year-old daughter Madison, along for the ride.
“Merlin couldn’t have created a better experience for us. Queenstown is absolutely stunning, but the hospitality shown by the Merlin team made the experience even more spectacular.”
The group travelled to Highlands Motorsport Park for the adrenalin-charged experience of a lifetime. Racing legend Greg Murphy took the lucky winners for a thrilling hot lap, reaching over 215km an hour. Greg even offered to give the two youngest members of the group their own ride; 10-year-old Madison and 12-year-old Akos.
Homeowner Andrew, from Brisbane, had never been to Queenstown before, but commented that the experience was one that he will never forget.
“I’m not the biggest follower of motorsports myself, but it was such an incredible rush that I’ve got a new-found appreciation for the sport. My son absolutely loved it as well, and it was so wonderful that Greg was willing to give the kids a hot lap too. It really was an experience for everyone.”
Amidst all the adrenalin, the winners also had some down time to explore glorious Queenstown, including a scenic Gondola ride to Bob’s Peak to witness stunning panoramic views of Lake Wakatipu.
Homeowner Jane, from Auckland, said the trip was planned perfectly.
“Merlin’s team thoughtfully planned every detail, and it made the experience absolutely seamless. We were able to explore stunning Queenstown at our own pace and they were so hospitable, thank you Merlin!”
